Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the LCCMR?

A. The Liberal Catholic Church of the Mystical Rose (LCCMR) is an inclusive, sacramental, liberal-catholic Christian community rooted in the love of God and the mystical path of Christ. We welcome people of all genders, sexualities, and backgrounds.

Q. Is the LCCMR affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church?

A. No. We are an independent liberal-catholic jurisdiction with our own governance, ethos, and sacramental life.

Q. What does “Mystical Rose” mean?

A. It reflects Mary’s ancient title as a symbol of divine compassion, beauty, and spiritual growth, and expresses our devotion to God’s all-embracing love.

Q. What is the Liberal Catholic Church?

A. The Liberal Catholic Church is a Christian denomination that combines Catholic-style sacraments with a liberal approach to theology, emphasizing freedom of belief and often incorporating theosophical ideas. It is a movement with various independent denominations that arose from the Old Catholic movement in the early 20th century, differentiating itself by denying the Pope's supreme authority and promoting diverse interpretations of faith. These churches are known for being inclusive, with many welcoming women bishops, affirming the LGBTQ+ community, and allowing for the remarriage of divorced individuals.

Q. In what ways are you inclusive?

A. The LCCMR welcomes all people without exception. We affirm all genders, sexualities, cultures, and backgrounds. People of every orientation, identity, ability, and life situation are fully included in our worship, sacraments, ministries, and leadership. Everyone is eligible for ordination or incardination, provided they meet the basic requirements. No one is excluded — all are embraced as beloved.

Q. Are your sacraments valid?

A. The LCCMR celebrates the seven traditional sacraments with reverence and integrity. Their meaning and value come from God’s grace working through love, community, and conscience.

Q. Is the LCCMR inclusive of LGBTQIA+ people?

A. Yes, fully and joyfully. LGBTQIA+ people are welcomed in all roles, including ordained ministry.

Q. Who can receive Communion?

A. All who seek the presence of Christ in love and sincerity are welcome to the Table—no exceptions.

Q. What liturgy do you use?

A. We use a modern, inclusive liturgy rooted in catholic tradition, with reverence, beauty, and accessible language.

Q. What is your stance on divorce and remarriage?

A. We recognise that life is complex. Divorced and remarried people are warmly welcomed and may fully participate in all sacraments.

Q. Are clergy paid?

A. No. All clergy are self-supporting, non-stipendiary volunteers serving from love and commitment.
